Syswell Technology (Syswell), a Singapore-based advanced optical sensor startup, has secured seed investment from one of the largest construction companies in Japan, Kajima Corporation (Kajima). The two companies are also forming a strategic partnership to collaborate in the development and commercialization of sensor-related products and services.
Founded in 2020, Syswell is a spin-off from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). It has secured exclusive licensing rights from NTU to commercialize wireless FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors. It is also supported by Origgin Ventures, a local venture co-creation specialist who also entered as a pre-seed investor.
In the civil and construction industry, the health monitoring of building structures and work sites is critical. Compared to presently available conventional sensors in the market, Syswell’s FBG sensors have higher immunity to interferences, longer stability, and greater resistance to corrosion and combustion. Syswell’s miniaturized wireless sensors are also optimized with greater ease of deployments and enhanced periodic monitoring to increase overall monitoring efficiency and thereby, ensuring the safety of systems without increasing manpower labour.
With seed funding from Kajima, Syswell‘s plan for growth acceleration includes team expansion, expedited product development, and increased undertaking of pilot projects in Singapore as well as regional expansion within the next two to three years. Syswell and Kajima will also collaborate and combine synergies to develop products, implement projects and train the next generation of engineers.
